us to see if we have an opening for K-9 Handlers and Support Personnel/Base Operations. We also require that you attend several trainings before applying. We have limited space as we pair applicants with mentors. To become an active member, you are required to fill out an application, as well as a background check authorization, and submit a $60 application fee.
Once your application has been submitted, you are considered an applicant. You will remain in this status for a six-month probationary period.

VSRDA Team Capabilities
Every VSRDA team member, at a minimum, is required to:
- acquire/maintain a current Advanced First Aid and CPR certifications
- attend classes in search strategy & tactics and scent theory
- learn radio communications and etiquette
- certify as a Field Team Member, FTM, per the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM).

To become an associate member, you are required to fill out an application and submit a $10 application fee.
Once your application has been submitted, you are considered an associate member. As an associate member you are not required to meet the minimum training requirements and you do not have the ability to vote. Associate members typically aid the group in administrative and fund raising tasks.
